Surge protection is increasingly important because electronic devices are becoming more sensitive and are more easily damaged when exposed to voltage surges.
A simple prime example is LED lighting that is now more commonly used. These devices and drivers have a lower voltage withstand than the older fluorescent they fittings that they replace.
With the continued growth of the use of high end electronics and IT systems, such as computers, PLC’s, instrumentation and Networks in control systems, it is important to protect these devices from surges. Failures due to surges can prove expensive, not only to replace the high end equipment, but also the potential ‘down time’ of a system.
